100 years ago: The store of Edward Evans, at Carrollton, was burglarized on Monday night and clothing, gloves, etc., to the estimated value of $15 was stolen. The thief or thieves also got about $12 in money, which belonged to the Church of God near Carrollton, of which Mr. Evans is treasurer. Some blacksmith's implements were found about the premises on Tuesday morning and identified as belonging to Morris Green, from whose blacksmith shop , on the Reisterstown turnpike, they were stolen. Mr. Evans store was robbed several times 5 or 6 years ago by a gang under the leadership of John Hall, alias Charles Wells; the same gang , ti will be remembered, terrorized people in that neighborhood and elsewhere in Carroll and Baltimore counties by the boldness of their depredations. -- Democratic Advocate, Nov. 11, 1899.
