Police seek man charged in Essex triple shooting

TOWSON -- County police are seeking help to locate Kleatus R. McManus, wanted on an arrest warrant in a triple shooting Oct. 27 in Essex. He is charged with three counts of attempted murder, assault, using a handgun during a violent crime and illegally possessing a firearm.

McManus is accused of shooting three people near Dartford and Back River Neck roads. McManus is described as a thin black male, 5-foot-9, with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweat shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-887-2198 or Metro Crime Stoppers at 410-276-8888. Callers can remain anonymous, and those calling Metro Crime Stoppers may be eligible for a reward up to $2,000.

Car strikes school bus; no one seriously injured

ROSEDALE -- A school bus carrying 38 middle school pupils was struck by a car on Interstate 95 north of Baltimore yesterday afternoon, but no one was seriously hurt.

Maryland State Police said the bus was traveling north on the interstate about 3: 30 p.m. when a car struck the left rear of the bus. Medics responded to the scene, but the pupils and drivers refused help, police said.

The cause of the accident is being investigated.

Agency is encouraging landscapes to protect bay

TOWSON -- The county's Department of Environmental Protection and Resource Management, the Home Builders Association of Maryland and the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay are uniting to encourage homeowners to landscape in ways that will enhance the environment and protect the bay.

Brochures describing the landscaping techniques and beneficial plants will be distributed to homebuyers and placed in libraries and county offices.

Patterson Park man is fatally shot in alley

A Patterson Park man was fatally shot Monday night in an alley a few yards from his home in the 200 block of N. Collington Ave., police said.

Anthony Henson, 19, who was shot once in the back, was found by Housing Authority of Baltimore City police, who heard gunshots in the area shortly after 11 p.m. Henson died a short time later at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Police said yesterday they had yet to determine a motive for the shooting, and had no suspects.

Woman killed, man wounded in McElderry St. shooting

A woman was fatally shot and a man wounded last night in the victims' residence in the Ellwood Park-Monument section of East Baltimore, police said.

Police responding to shots fired in a two-story rowhouse in the 3300 block of McElderry St. about 8: 15 p.m. found the woman dead in a first-floor front room and the man in another room, said Agent Ragina Cooper, a police spokeswoman. Each had been shot several times.

The man was in serious condition at Johns Hopkins Hospital, Cooper said. The names of the victims were withheld pending notification of relatives. Their relationship and ages were not known.

Art show, auction to feature Caribbean theme, music, food

The Monumental City Medical Society, a nonprofit organization of African-American physicians, has scheduled its third annual art show and auction at 7 p.m. Saturday at Kahler Hall, 5440 Old Tucker Row in Columbia.

The event will feature a Caribbean carnival theme with music, desserts, wine and cheese. Tickets are $5. Information: 410-243-6905.

Financial aid advice to be offered at seminar

"How to Pay for College", a program sponsored by Rep. Elijah E. Cummings, the 7th District Democrat, will be held at 4 p.m. Monday at the 5th Regiment Armory at Howard and Preston streets in Baltimore.

Featured will be a session with federal, state and college financial aid officials on filling out financial aid forms, finding scholarships and taking the SAT.

Admissions and financial aid officials from more than 30 schools in the mid-Atlantic region are expected at the 3 1/2-hour event.

Open house is Sunday for Mercy High students

Mercy High School will hold an open house for prospective students from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the school, 1300 E. Northern Parkway at Loch Raven Boulevard.
