A 19-year-old man was killed at 4: 24 a.m. yesterday after he drove his Chevrolet Cavalier the wrong direction on U.S. 50 outside Annapolis and collided head-on with a tractor-trailer, Maryland State Police said.

Enrique Rosas Ortega of the 300 block of Blossom Tree Drive in Arnold was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to the state Medical Examiner's Office to determine whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the accident, police said.

The truck driver, Robert R. Hester of Philadelphia, was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with minor injuries, said State Trooper Jason McCrone.

Police said Ortega apparently had been driving the wrong direction on either Route 450 or Route 2 and then drove west on the eastbound ramp to U.S. 50. His Chevrolet slid under the tractor-trailer, spun around and landed against the concrete median barrier, police said.
