County steering committee for Bush campaign named
Ellen R. Sauerbrey, state chairwoman for the George W. Bush Presidential Campaign, has announced the appointment of the campaign's Carroll County steering committee.
Bob Wolfing was named committee chairman and Koreen Hughes as county director.
Also serving are: Sen. Timothy R. Ferguson, Dels. Carmen Amedori and Joseph M. Getty, County Commissioners Donald I. Dell and Julia Walsh Gouge, and State's Attorney Jerry Barnes.

Racial equality group to hold book program
Carroll Citizens for Racial Equality will sponsor a program and discussion on the book "Diversity Consciousness" by Richard Bucher, at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Eldersburg Library.
Bucher, a Carroll County native and professor of sociology at Baltimore City Community College, served on the Carroll County Human Relations Commission and has spoken in the county public schools.
The program is free and open to the public. The library is at 6400 W. Hemlock Drive.

County family center to display new day care site
The Carroll County Family Center will hold an open house to show its new day care facility from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
On Nov. 8, staff and members will make a friendship stew that will be served for lunch Nov. 9. Bring a vegetable for the stew.
Thanksgiving will be celebrated Nov. 17 with a lunch and special activities for all ages. Registration is required by Nov. 11.
The center will be closed Nov. 11 for Veterans Day and Nov. 25 and 26 for Thanksgiving.
The center is at 10 Distillery Drive, Westminster.
Business makes donation to law enforcement fund
The Law Enforcement Activities Fund in the Carroll County State's Attorney's Office has received a $1,000 contribution from the Westminster Cigar Co.
The store twice yearly sponsors "Big Smokes" at Wilhelm Ltd. Caterers and raises money for community causes.
The next event will be held Nov. 19 and will feature games sponsored by the Fraternal Order of Police, a silent auction and 50/50 raffle, with proceeds going to the Law Enforcement Activities Fund.
Donations support awareness and prevention efforts in domestic violence, drug education and treatment, and educational materials for the public schools, civic groups and churches.
