Johns Hopkins, Salisbury fall; Bowie romps; State


Sophomore tailback Mike Smith ran for a career-high 101 yards and two touchdowns yesterday to lead Dickinson to a 37-21 win over Johns Hopkins in a Centennial Conference game in Carlisle, Pa.

The Blue Jays (3-5, 2-3) trailed 37-0 before scoring 21 points in the fourth quarter. Quarterback Jamie Monica came off the bench and threw for a touchdown and ran for another.

The Red Devils (5-3, 3-2) led 14-0 less than six minutes into the game, as Smith and Sam Miller scored on runs of 41 and 40 yards, respectively.

Wesley 14, Salisbury State 7: Gary Morgan returned the opening kickoff 84 yards for a touchdown and Jabbar Truitt scored on a 7-yard run as the host Wolverines (5-3, 3-1) defeated the Sea Gulls in an Atlantic Central Football Conference game.

The Wolverines rushed for 212 yards but were out-gained in total yards, 314-253.

The only score for the Sea Gulls (2-5, 2-2) came on Brian Driscoll's 21-yard touchdown pass to Thomas Browne just before halftime.

Bowie State 40, Fayetteville State 21: Jimmy Whitehead threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns to lead the host Bulldogs (5-3, 4-2) to a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association win over Fayetteville State (1-8, 1-5).

Bowie's T-Wuan Prather rushed 15 times for 134 yards and two touchdowns, and caught a 24-yard touchdown pass in the fourth quarter that put the Bulldogs ahead, 33-14.
