Veteran coach Hayse Henderson dies


Hayse Henderson, a veteran track and football coach at Glen Burnie and Meade high schools, died of a heart attack Thursday evening at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Henderson, who was 51, was in the hospital to have his pacemaker replaced when he died suddenly.

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Henderson graduated from Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C. He earned his master's at Morgan State. Henderson, a Pasadena resident, was a teacher for 28 years in the Anne Arundel County system.

Head football coach at Meade from 1990-92, finishing 8-22, Henderson was the Mustangs' outdoor track coach in recent years. Prior to that, he was an assistant football coach at Glen Burnie and Meade, and during the 1980s coached the Glen Burnie indoor and outdoor track teams.

Henderson is survived by his wife of 30 years, Betty, and three children, Sharhonda (age 28), Bart (26) and Benneth) (21).
