Fesperman novel wins British award

"Lie in the Dark," by Sun reporter Dan Fesperman, has won the John Creasey Memorial Award as the best first crime novel of 1999.

The Creasey award is one of the Dagger Awards for mysteries given by the British Crime Writers Association.

The award to Fesperman, 44, of Baltimore, will be presented Dec. 9 at a luncheon in London.

Past American winners of the Creasey award include Patricia Cornwell's "Postmortem" (1990) and Janet Evanovich's "One for the Money" (1995).
