Hampstead man gets year for probation violation in DWI case
A Hampstead man who violated probation by failing to report to a drinking and driving monitor was sentenced yesterday to a year in the county jail, court records show.
Charles E. Brittain IV, 23, of the 4300 block of Downhill Trail was given credit for having served 15 days in jail on the driving-while-intoxicated charge.
Court records show Brittain was pulled over for speeding in Westminster in April 1997. He was charged with speeding -- more than 15 mph over the limit -- and drunken driving when his blood-alcohol content registered 0.11, slightly above the legal limit for state motorists.
Brittain was sentenced in July 1998 to a year in jail with all but 15 days suspended, court records showed.
He was placed on two years' probation after he was released and ordered to be supervised by the state's drinking and driving monitor program.
Brittain failed to report to the monitor in July.
