Grand jury indicts man in death of girlfriend
An Anne Arundel County grand jury indicted Monday the boyfriend of an Annapolis woman who was killed in July 1996.
James S. Johnson, 32, formerly of Annapolis, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Desiree Chavis, 27, whose body was pulled from Spa Creek in Annapolis July 11, 1996, by two boaters. She had been gagged and a large rock had been tied to her leg. Johnson is in prison on a probation violation in an unrelated case.
The state's attorney's office is looking for anyone who saw a light-colored pickup truck in Truxtun Park around the time of the killing. Anyone with information should call investigator David Cordle at 410-222-1740, Ext. 3063.
Anti-hunger coalition to hold its first meeting
