'Backyard Bash'

Think you could anchor the evening news? Read from a TelePrompTer? Operate a news camera? Try your best at the Maryland Public Television Backyard Bash Sunday. Bring the family and learn firsthand how television is created. Meet MPT celebrities, including "MotorWeek" host John Davis and "HealthWeek" on-air talent. Watch live stage shows featuring Bob the Vid Tech, costume characters from "Sesame Street" and the "Puzzle Place." Sit in on financial workshops on the set of "Wall $treet Week with Louis Rukeyser." Watch Footworks Percussive Dance Ensemble, listen to storytelling with Mary Carter Smith, participate in environmental activities, visit the petting zoo, tour the studios, enjoy a variety of foods and more.

The outdoor bash takes place from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Maryland Public Television, Owings Mills Boulevard in Owings Mills. Enjoy an old-fashioned family harvest festival Saturday at Cylburn Arboretum. "FestiFall" features hayrides, scarecrow-making, square dancing, crafts, games, a petting zoo, bird walks and country music with New Country 100.7-FM radio personalities. Tour the arboretum, the mansion, its museums and the library, as well. Refreshments will be available.

The festival takes place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cylburn Arboretum, 4915 Greenspring Ave. Free admission. Parking is $1. Call 410-396-0180.
