Severna Park overpowers Arundel, 4-0; Barnes scores 3, keeps No. 2 Falcons rolling; Field hockey

From a territorial standpoint, Arundel came closer than any team in Anne Arundel County this season to staying on even terms with No. 2 Severna Park yesterday afternoon in Gambrills.

As for scoring, it was no contest.

Behind a three-goal performance from junior Nicki Barnes, the Falcons were more aggressive and resourceful with their time spent in the scoring circle, coming away with a 4-0 win over the determined, but less refined Wildcats.

Barnes took a pass from senior Erin Shaklee four minutes in, was fast around the left corner and sent a hard drive off a tough angle to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

Her next two goals came off penalty corner chances.

The Falcons improve to 11-1 overall and remain perfect in county play at 8-0 with a regular-season finale against Chesapeake (9-1-1, 7-0 in county play) set for next Tuesday. The Wildcats lost their third straight, falling to 6-6 overall, and 5-3 in the county.
