SOMETIMES a mistake can lead to inspiration. That's the lesson the Community College of Baltimore County should take from its botched effort to take over the evening adult education program from the county school board.
The college marketed the program to everyone in the county but didn't retain enough teachers to staff the classes or provide adequate staff to register applicants. The result: confused teachers, overwhelmed registrars, canceled classes and disappointed students.
But there's a silver lining. The college's wider marketing created an overwhelming response, which certainly suggests that a broad segment of potential students had previously been missed.
CCBC's challenge is to learn from its administrative blunder so it can better serve these newly discovered students.
