Wine on the beach

Sample fine wines from across the nation, including featured wines from the Mid-Atlantic, all weekend in Ocean City. "WineFest on the Beach" will also include microbrews from Magic Hat #9, Pete's Wicked Oktoberfest, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Samuel Middleton Pale Ale. Listen to reggae from Orlando Phillips, local musicians Zion Train and the Dan Haas Band and many other entertainers. A "Designated Driver Program" will be available for responsible group participation.

The festival will run tomorrow, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, noon to 7 p.m. and Sunday, 12: 30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Inlet Park in Ocean City. Cost is $18 including a commemorative wine glass and sample coupons; $5 ages 7-20; children under 7 are free; $15 per person for groups of 10 or more. Springs Folk Festival

With the arrival of fall comes the sight of falling leaves, the sound of horses' hoofs and the smell of hearty Pennsylvania Dutch meals filling the air at the 42nd Springs Folk Festival in Pennsylvania. Tomorrow and Saturday, watch as history is relived in homemade food, crafts, music and a pageant. Artisans and 135 demonstrators will display contemporary handcrafts, pottery and colorful quilts. Pennsylvania Dutch sausage, fried potatoes, corn and funnel cakes will be served at concession stands, and homemade baked goods will be sold. The Springs Museum, in two adjacent buildings, will be open with antique tools and furnishings. Admission to the museum is included in the festival admission price.

The festival runs tomorrow and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in Springs, Pa., on Route 669 between Salisbury, Pa., and Grantsville, Md. $5; $2 ages 6-18; ages 5 and under free. Call 814-662-2051.
