11 counties listed in request for aid

Gov. Parris N. Glendening yesterday asked President Clinton to declare 11 Maryland counties major disaster areas in the wake of Hurricane Floyd.

The declaration would make residents of those counties eligible for almost $3 million in disaster-related grants, loans and other assistance.

The state and the seven most heavily damaged of the 11 counties also would get access to more than $5.3 million in federal help to rebuild public buildings, roads and bridges.

The 11 counties included in the request are Harford -- the hardest-hit, with $1.3 million in damage -- Anne Arundel, Calvert, Caroline, Cecil, Charles, Kent, St. Mary's, Queen Anne's, Somerset and Talbot.
