Assault and arson: Nathan Ely, 35, was arrested yesterday and charged with arson and assault after an incident at a home he shares with his girlfriend in the 500 block of Chapelgate Lane. Police were called to the home by a woman who complained her boyfriend had stolen her car. The man returned as officers were interviewing the woman, pushed her, ran into the house and barricaded himself inside, set fire to the sofa, jumped out a first-floor window and was arrested, police said.
Robbery: A man in his late 20s snatched a woman's purse in the 800 block of N. Howard St. yesterday afternoon. The purse and its contents were valued at $38.
Shoplifting: A man was arrested yesterday on a shoplifting charge at Home Depot in the 6000 block of Baltimore National Pike.

Arrest in shooting: The U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force has arrested Bryon Lee Bell, 18, of the 100 block of W. Cold Spring Lane and charged him with first-degree murder in the death July 7 of Curlenzo Cherrel Stith, 29, who was shot in an alley off the 3400 block of Paton Ave. about 4 a.m. in Northwest Baltimore. Police said the incident was drug-related.
Charge: Lavard Warren, 20, of the 800 block of N. Milton Ave. has been charged with first-degree murder in the shooting July 26 of Carlton Valentine, 33, who was found about 2 a.m. at his home in the 800 block of Bradford St.
