Food for Thought

Several nationally recognized chefs and cookbook authors will demonstrate their culinary skills at the Baltimore Book Festival this weekend in Mount Vernon Place on Charles Street. Visitors can watch authors Curtis Aikens ("Curtis Cooks With Heart & Soul"), Gail Greco ("Country Inn Meals to Remember"), George Hirsh ("Know Your Fire") and Barbara Pool Fenzl ("Savor the Southwest") whip up signature dishes on the Food for Thought stage. There also will be food discussions. Information: 410-837-4636.

A dandy dip

The American Diabetes Association suggests this tasty, low-fat dip: To 1 cup of low-fat sour cream and 1/2 cup nonfat mayonnaise, add 3 tablespoons minced fresh dill, 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder and 1/4 teaspoon onion powder.
