The blotter is a sampling of crimes in Howard County compiled from police reports.


Hall Shop Road: Someone made a hole in a home window pane between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. Friday, reached in and stole a key that was left in the deadbolt lock.

East Columbia

Blue Pool: 8900 block, Long Reach. Someone entered a home through an unlocked sliding glass door between 10: 30 p.m. Sept. 13 and 8 a.m. Sept. 14 and stole a purse, credit cards and a key to a Toyota Corolla, which the thief also took.

Dobbin Center Way: 6400 block. Someone attempted to break into All Tune & Lube at 5 a.m. Wednesday but ran when the alarm was activated.

Riverwood Drive: 7100 block. Someone attempted to enter the Howard County Food Bank between 3 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Monday by prying a lock.

West Columbia

Brook Way Drive: 5200 block, Wilde Lake. Two intruders entered a vacant house between 6 p.m. Sept. 9 and 10 a.m. Friday, spray-painted the house and started a fire. Two boys, ages 15 and 16, were arrested.

Vantage Point Road: Two men approached a man walking at 7 p.m. Thursday and forced him to the ground at gunpoint. The robbers took his jacket and his wallet containing $105.

Ellicott City/Elkridge

Deep Run Parkway: 6600 block, Elkridge. A homeowner heard people trying to break into his shed at 11 p.m. and chased them in his car when they fled. Two 15-year-old boys were charged.

Haywagon Way: 4500 block, Ellicott City. Someone entered a home between 11 p.m. Sept. 15 and 2: 30 a.m. Wednesday through an unlocked door and stole a purse from the living room. The purse was recovered, but $50 was missing.

Riverbirch Court: 6000 block, Elkridge. Someone entered a ground-floor apartment at 9 p.m. Monday and stole a purse from a counter top.

North Laurel/Savage

Gorman Road: 10000 block, North Laurel. Someone entered a garage through a pet door made for a Great Dane between 8: 30 p.m. Sept. 13 and 4 p.m. Sept. 14 and stole a chain saw, leaf blower and a weed trimmer.
