Baltimore County police officer hit by truck during foot chase

A Baltimore County police officer was struck by a pickup truck in Overlea last night while chasing a man wanted in a slaying.

Officer Michael Streett was being treated last night at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for nonlife-threatening injuries, said Bill Toohey, county police spokesman.

Toohey said an employee at the McDonald's restaurant in the 7500 block of Belair Road called police about 8 p.m. to report a suspicious vehicle in the restaurant parking lot. The restaurant had been robbed Wednesday night, Toohey said.

Streett responded, checked the driver's identification and found that he was being sought, Toohey said. Streett tried to arrest the man, who fled on foot across Belair Road. Streett chased him and was hit by a truck.

The man ran into the side of a police car, was arrested and taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore for treatment, Toohey said.

He said a male passenger in the vehicle at McDonald's also was arrested.

Toohey would not disclose the names of either man or the jurisdiction where the warrant was issued.

Toohey said the truck driver will not be charged.
