Festivals in Towson, Reisterstown

Do the twist with the legendary Chubby Checker on Saturday at the Baltimore County African-American Cultural Festival. Other live performers include Howard Hewett, Jean Carne and the Choir Boyz. Also enjoy line dancing, carnival games, clowns, gospel music, informational booths, kids' entertainment, arts, crafts, health screenings, food and more.

On Saturday and Sunday, celebrate Reister's Towne, before it became Reisterstown. The Reister's Towne Festival features arts, crafts, displays, food vendors, kids' activities and live entertainment from the Mahoney Brothers, Stevie and the Satellites and others, including the Spencer Davis Group on Sunday, 2:30 p.m.-4 p.m. Watch a parade move from the Reisterstown Shopping Center along Main Street to Chatsworth Avenue, 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday.

The African-American festival runs 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday at the Towson Courts Plaza, 400 Washington Ave. Free. Call 410-887-5557.

The free Reister's Towne Festival is on the grounds of Franklin Elementary School and the back field of Franklin Middle School, Saturday, 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m., and Sunday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Free parking behind Mars at the Reisterstown Shopping Center and on the lower lot of the Chartley Shopping Center, with a shuttle to the school. Jones Falls Valley Celebration

Discover the recreational possibilities along the Jones Falls this weekend. During the Jones Falls Valley Celebration on Saturday, kayak and canoe down the Jones Falls (the dam at Lake Roland will be opened), explore the shopping villages of the valley, peruse the photo exhibit in the Village of Cross Keys and enjoy a concert and picnic at Wyman Park Dell. Sunday, try rock-climbing with Outward Bound at Clipper Mill Road and Falls Road, nature walks, picnicking, music and kids' activities, an 8K run and more. The JFX will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Sunday for visitors to stroll, bike or roller-blade along the expressway.

The celebration runs 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday. Sunday's opening ceremony takes place 9 a.m. at Poly-Western High School. Exhibits, activities, nature walks and food are at the Celebration Center at Wyman Park at 29th and Sisson streets on Sunday. Free. Call 410-261-3517.
