Commissioners to present strategic plan on Tuesday
The county commissioners will hold a public meeting to present their strategic plan at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Room 003 of the County Office Building in Westminster.
Early in their term, the commissioners began working with their Cabinet members to identify key issues and establish goals. The result is the strategic plan.
The commissioners will present their mission and stated vision for the county government. Staff members will present eight goals and ways to accomplish them.
FEMALE sets open house at Eldersburg library
The Carroll County Chapter of FEMALE (Formerly Employed Mothers at the Leading Edge) will have an open house for mothers of young children from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Eldersburg branch library.
FEMALE is a national, nonprofit organization that offers support for women who have chosen to care for their children at home.
The open house will feature information about FEMALE and how the local chapter provides services to mothers and families.
Members will be on hand to talk with visitors. Dress is casual, and refreshments will be provided.

Commissioners set hearing on Year 2000 readiness
The county commissioners will hold a public hearing on the proposed Year 2000 Compliance Plan at 9 a.m. Sept. 22 in Room 300A of the County Office Building.
The compliance plan outlines the preparations taken by the county government to address possible Year 2000 data problems.
A copy of the plan can be obtained from the Bureau of Information and Technology Services in Room 011, County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster.
The commissioners could make changes to the plan based on comments received.

Carroll historical society to mark 60th anniversary
The Historical Society of Carroll County will hold its 60th anniversary celebration with a 1939 Soiree Oct. 9.
The evening starts with a Club 39 cocktail reception from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Westminster Riding Club, 366 N. Colonial Ave.
Music for dancing will be provided by the Peabody Ragtime Ensemble from 7 p.m. to midnight at the old Westminster Armory on Longwell Avenue. A floor show by the dance history ensemble of Goucher College, "Choregraphie Antique," will be given.
Dancers will do the Big Apple, the Lindy Hop and the Shag.
Period dress is encouraged.
Tickets are $65 per person or $600 for a table of 10.
