The U.S. team captured the men's under-19 world championship on July 10 in Adelaide, Australia, beating Canada, 14-7, in the final.

Owen Daly, a McDonogh School graduate who is headed for Princeton, was named the tournament Most Valuable Player, as well as the All-World midfielder.

Liam Banks, a sophomore at Syracuse, was the tournament's top scorer with 18 goals and 18 assists, and B.J. Prager, a sophomore at Princeton, was named the All-World attackman.

Players with area ties on the team included attackmen Andrew Faraone (Gilman), Conor Gill (St. Paul's) and Dan LaMonica (Boys' Latin); midfielders Mike LaMonica (Calvert Hall/Maryland) and Nate Watkins (Maryland); defenseman John Brasko (Johns Hopkins), and goalkeeper Rob Scherr (McDonogh/Hopkins).

The Iroquois Nationals won their first medal in international competition, finishing third after a 15-11 win over England.
