A taxicab and a truck collided in East Baltimore during afternoon rush hour yesterday, killing an unidentified woman and injuring four others, police said.

Officer Raymond Howard of the traffic investigation section said a 1978 International truck was eastbound in the 1600 block of E. Fayette St. about 4: 55 p.m. when it struck the passenger side of a 1989 Chevrolet Celebrity taxi that was southbound in the 200 block of N. Broadway and making a left turn onto East Fayette Street. The truck pushed the Rosedale Sedan Service cab across the intersection and into the northbound lane of North Broadway, where it came to rest against the curb.

Firefighters freed the driver and two passengers from the demolished cab. The truck, owned by Kramer Logistics Inc. in the 1100 block of E. Patapsco Ave., suffered minor damage.

A woman who was sitting in the front passenger seat of the cab, who police said took nearly the full force of the collision, died at 5: 42 p.m. at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Police were trying to identify her through fingerprints.

Bryan C. Smith, 35, of the 3100 block of Donna Road in Woodlawn, the driver of the truck, and a passenger, Jennifer L. Williams, 31, of the 3600 block of Everett St. in the Brooklyn section of southern Baltimore, were treated at Church Hospital and released, police said.

Cabdriver Matilda M. Arnold, 44, of the 3300 block of Leverton Ave. in Highlandtown in Southeast Baltimore, was in serious condition at Maryland Shock Trauma Center, police said.

Joseph N. Dulski, 25, of Illinois, who was seated in the back seat of the cab, was in stable condition at Hopkins, police said.
