A 22-year-old man was killed near Edgewater Friday evening when his pickup truck drifted into oncoming traffic on Old Solomon's Island Road and struck a sport utility vehicle head-on, Anne Arundel County police reported.

Shane P. Gessford, of the 6700 block of Old Solomon's Island Road in Friendship, was northbound shortly before 6 p.m. when his Dodge truck collided with the Nissan SUV driven by Tiffany L. Matthews, 25, of Deale.

Gessford was pronounced dead at Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis.

Matthews was reported in stable condition after being flown by helicopter to Prince George's General Hospital, according to police.
