Carroll County sheriff's office starts toll-free crime hot line; Prompted by success of most-wanted program

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Spawned by the success of the public's response to a Carroll County Most-Wanted Program, Sheriff Kenneth L. Tregoning's office began a toll-free hot line yesterday so residents can anonymously report criminal activity in their communities.

Callers will be advised to dial 911 for emergencies, or leave a recorded message regarding any type of crime. They may remain anonymous or ask for a law enforcement officer to return their call.

All calls will be handled by deputies, or forwarded to appropriate police agencies.

Residents can report criminal activity by calling 1-888-399-TIPS (8477), or speak to a deputy by calling the Sheriff's Office at 410- 386-2900 or toll-free at 1-888- 302-8924.
