A Howard County police chase, involving a man driving a speeding Jeep with a lawn chair for a driver's seat, ended early yesterday in Baltimore County when the driver and two passengers fled on foot and were arrested, police said.

The 10-minute chase began on northbound U.S. 29 at 3: 06 a.m. when a police officer clocked the Jeep at 81 mph in the 55-mph zone. When the officer tried to apprehend the vehicle, which police later learned was reported stolen, the driver accelerated, reaching 110 mph, said Sgt. Morris Carroll, a police spokesman.

The driver then headed onto westbound Route 99, traveling 70 mph in areas with a 45-mph speed limit, police said. The Jeep crossed into Baltimore County on Woodstock Road and Old Court Road before veering into a field. Three occupants of the vehicle fled on foot, and Baltimore County police arrested them.

The vehicle, which was stripped, was reported stolen Sunday from a Prince George's County residence, police said.

The lawn chair used as a driver's seat was not secured, Carroll said.

Police arrested Antwane Pinkard, 19, of Silver Spring, Moniquea S. Posey, 18, of Washington, and a juvenile.

In addition to counts of theft, reckless driving and fleeing police, Pinkard was charged with not wearing a seat belt while in the unsecured lawn chair.

Police said charges against the others were pending.
