Dutch publishing giant Wolters Kluwer NV announced yesterday that it will acquire Baltimore-based Document Resources, a division of Information America, from the West Group of Egan, Minn.

Wolters Kluwer will also acquire Data Filing Services of Glendale, Calif., another division of Information America. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Document Resources and Data Filing Services will become part of CCH Legal Information Services of New York, a provider of corporate representation, corporate filing services and Uniform Commercial Code search and filing services.

The deal is subject to regulatory review, but Mary Dale Walters, U.S. spokeswoman for Wolters Kluwer, said the company does not anticipate major job losses for Document Resources.

Document Resources has 66 employees, 39 of them in Baltimore. The company had revenue of $7.5 million last year.

Document Resources supplies public documents to corporations, financial institutions, government and law firms. Its search and retrieval service finds and provides publicly recorded documents such as Uniform Commercial Code filings, corporate filings and motor vehicle records.

Wolters Kluwer bought Baltimore-based publishing company Waverly Inc. last year, merging it with Lippincott-Raven Publishers of Philadelphia to form Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.

Wolters Kluwer is active in 26 countries and has more than 16,000 employees. Its North American operations include Aspen Publishers of Gaithersburg and CCH Inc., a tax publisher in Chicago.
