A Westminster man was killed and four people were injured early yesterday in a two-vehicle collision on Route 27 in Mount Airy, state police said.

Braden D. Mann, 18, of the 2300 block of Beren Lane, a rear-seat passenger in a Toyota Corolla, was pronounced dead at the scene soon after the crash at 12: 11 a.m. on Route 27 at East Ridgeville Boulevard, police said.

Kara E. Rogers, the driver, and two passengers were taken by MedEvac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Rogers, 18, of the 5600 block of Old Washington Road was treated and released yesterday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The passengers, Cara A. Petroski, 16, of the 200 block of Vance Drive in Mount Airy and Edward R. Harrison Jr., 19, of the 7000 block of John Pickett Road in Woodbine, were in critical condition, a trauma center spokeswoman said. Rogers was the only occupant of the Toyota wearing a seat belt, police said.

Police said Michael C. Tennant, 17, of the 3700 block of Roop Road in New Windsor was the driver of the second vehicle, a Chevrolet pickup truck. He was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital and released, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Police said the Toyota was traveling south on Route 27 and turning left at East Ridgeville Boulevard when the northbound Chevrolet truck struck the passenger side of the turning Toyota.

The report said the truck, which was following another vehicle just before the intersection, passed on the right as it entered the intersection and collided with the Toyota.

No charges have been filed, but the investigation is continuing, police said.
