A news item in yesterday's editions of The Sun erroneously stated that Dr. Bernadine P. Healy had been the first physician chosen to lead the Red Cross. While she is the first physician to be named president, the top position of the organization once was titled chairman, and that position was held from 1919 to 1921 by Dr. Livingston Farand.

The Sun regrets the error.
