THE BALTIMORE SUN

William Shirer

Shirer was born in Illinois in 1904. He has worked as a reporter from overseas, broadcast the news from radio and has written numerous novels.

Shirer worked in Paris for one of the Chicago Tribune's overseas editions. He was a witness to the Nazi rise to power while broadcasting the news for CBS in Europe.

He wrote five books over three decades detailing World War II and German fascism. He also wrote the nonfiction books "Midcentury Journey" and "20th Century Journey." His fiction includes "The Traitor," "Stranger Come Home," and "The Consul's Wife."
