3 seized in Pa. theft after high-speed chase

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Three theft suspects were arrested in northern Baltimore County last night after a high-speed chase that began in York County, Pa. During the pursuit, speeds reached 120 mph, said Maryland State Police at the Golden Ring barracks.

Police said three men in a 1998 Jeep Cherokee stole jewelry from a store in Springettsburg, Pa., yesterday and were pursued by Pennsylvania State Police south on Interstate 83.

Maryland police said the Jeep left I-83 at west Belfast Road about 9 p.m. and was southbound on Western Run Road near Butler when three tires were punctured by spikes deployed by police.

The men were arrested, and police recovered jewelry believed taken in the theft.

The Jeep's driver, James A. Carmon, 40, of the 2800 block of Brendan Ave. in Northeast Baltimore, was wanted on warrants charging him with a parole violation and assault, police said. The others were turned over to Pennsylvania police.
