Police seek man charged in church burglary; He is also a suspect in thefts at 3 other churches, they say

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Baltimore County police are seeking a man charged with burglarizing one church and suspected in thefts at three others.

Lafayette Johnson, 34, of the 2800 block of Overland Ave. is charged in the June 3 burglary of Greater Bethlehem Temple, in the 8300 block of Liberty Road, said police spokeswoman Cpl. Vickie Warehime.

Warehime said police think Johnson attended services at the church before the burglary. A broken window was discovered in the building.

Some items were in disarray inside the church, but nothing had been taken, she said.

Johnson is also a suspect in recent burglaries at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in the 7200 block of Liberty Road, First Lutheran Church of Towson in the first block of Burke Ave. and Calvary Baptist Church in the 7300 block of Manchester Road, Warehime said.

In the First Lutheran burglary, which occurred June 2, about $20 in coins was stolen from a plastic water jug in the church office, police said.

Two days later, $30 was stolen from a jar in the sanctuary, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call county police at 410-887-2198.
