Two of 3 children recant KKK story, Howard police say

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Two of the three children who said a man dressed in Ku Klux Klan garb scared them Sunday at a Savage basketball court have recanted their story, Howard County police said yesterday.

Officials are re-interviewing the third child, a girl, said Sgt. Morris Carroll, a police spokesman.

The two boys "said that's what they heard from the girl," Carroll said. Yesterday, "they said they didn't actually see the man."

The three black children told police they were playing in the 8800 block of Lincoln St. about 7: 20 p.m. Sunday when a man wearing a white robe and a pointed hat came out of a wooded area and told the children to leave.

An officer was conducting a follow-up interview yesterday when the two children recanted, police said.

Carroll said there are no plans to charge the children. He said officials "are still investigating."
