The Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors will hold its 1999 Realtor Awards Event Thursday at 12: 30 p.m. at the Suburban Club of Baltimore.

Nominees for the Realtor of the Year awards are William J. Byrnes and Margaret Rome, O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA; Stephen A. Campbell, Steve Campbell Realty, Inc.; Brenda Joyce Flagg and Linda Langrall, Coldwell Banker Grempler Realty and Douglas W. Poole, Re/Max Preferred.

Awards will also be given in three other categories: the Distinguished Realtor Sales Associate and Realtor Community Service Award; and Affiliate of the Year. The GBBR will also present its first lifetime achievement award.

News in Brief

The Greater Capital Area Association of Realtors reported that May home sales in Washington were the highest for any month in the 1990s. Single-family sales (497) and condominium cooperative sales (299) rose 37 percent over May 1998 and year-to-date sales were up 16 percent over 1998.

Coldwell Banker Grempler Realty said Peter Martucci, an agent at its Westminster office, completed the REBAC Buyer Agency Course given by the Greater Baltimore Board of Realtors.

Coldwell Banker Grempler Realty said Frederick W. Archer, a sales associate at its White Marsh/Perry Hall office, was awarded the Certified Residential Specialist designation by the Residential Sales Council.

Century 21 Diana said Steve Kuzma was its top agent in April with more than $3 million in sales; Barb Aiken had more than $1 million in sales.

Long & Foster Real Estate Inc. said Michael Yerman and Libby Berman have merged their firm with Marc Witman's Long & Foster office in Lutherville. The practice will now be known as Yerman, Berman & Witman and will continue operating from the Greenspring Valley/Falls Road location of Long & Foster.

O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA said Ed Wehnert Jr., of its Ocean City/104th Street office, and Kathy Langsner, of its Severna Park office, finished first and third, respectively, in the Northeast region of the ERA Listing Contest in April. Wehnert had 23 listings and Langsner had 19.

O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA said the Coastal Association of Realtors (CAR) honored several of its managers and associates recently. Dennis Roarty, manager of its Ocean City/104th Street office, was named CAR Realtor of the Year; Terry Hough, O'Conor, Piper & Flynn's coastal regional manager, won the Realtor Community Service Award; and Terri Moran, a sales associate at its Ocean City/104th Street office, was named CAR Distinguished Sales Associate of the Year.

Prudential Carruthers Realtors in Pikesville said the team of Harriett Wasserman, Marc Goldstein and David Desser led the company in listing and sales production in April with more than $4.3 million in sales volume.

Long & Foster awarded scholarships to high school seniors Anna Alexandra Dreyer of Owing Mills and Meredith Roberts of Greencastle, Pa.

O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA said Sarah Sinnickson, manager of the Annapolis Church Circle office, was named one of the nation's most powerful women in real estate by National Real Estate & Relocation magazine.

Building Specs Inc. said company President Stephen L. Showalter has been elected president of the National Association of Home Inspectors.

O'Conor, Piper & Flynn ERA said Aberdeen sales associate Billie Landbeck was honored for her 50-year career in the real estate business at the company's SalesMasters Symposium on May 21. Landbeck was the first woman president of both the Harford County Association of Realtors and the Maryland Association of Realtors.

F. W. Dodge Division of the McGraw-Hill Cos., an authority on the construction market, said April contracts for future construction in Maryland are down from 1998.

Residential contracts for April 1999 were $217,958,000, down 13 percent from 1998 contracts of $250,130,000. Year-to-date contracts dropped 10 percent from the corresponding time last year, to $854,507,000 from $947,461,000.

On the Move

Ruppert Nurseries Inc. said the following people joined the company: Kelly Lewis, general manager; Reid Altavilla, fleet manager; Cheri Baker, public relations/special projects; Stephanie Bayly, executive assistant, and Lee Clarke, information systems manager. Craig A. Ruppert and Christopher E. Davitt, former president and senior vice president, respectively, of the recently sold Ruppert Landscape Co., have also joined the company's management team on a full-time basis.

Century 21 Horizon said Ramona Dasch joined the company and will specialize in residential property in the Baltimore area.

Provident Mortgage Corp., a subsidiary of Provident Bank of Maryland, said Maria Federico Calder has recently joined the company as a senior mortgage loan officer in its Hunt Valley office.
