Weekend at Pimlico

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Today

A pair of stakes for distaffers are on tap for Pimlico's next-to-last weekend of spring racing.

After the defection of Moon Child, the Lady Dean Stakes was reduced to seven 3-year-old fillies that will attempt to cover 1 1/8 miles on the grass course. Buckingham Farm's Petunia, unbeaten in two outings this season and 2-for-2 on turf, heads the field.

Her stiffest opposition is likely to come from the Tony Dutrow-trained Red's Lady, untested on turf but the winner of the Smart Halo Stakes here.

Tomorrow

Lipstick is the lone stakes winner this year among a field of six in the Jacob France Stakes.

In her last race, the daughter of Smarten tested turf runners in the Gold Digger Stakes and earned place money. Great Beauty, which has started seven times this year and hasn't finished worse than second, should give Lipstick a run for the money.
