Plans for a national memorial park in Frederick County to honor firefighters who have died in the line of duty were unveiled yesterday.
The memorial is planned for the grounds of the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, home of the National Fire Academy.
When completed, the park would be the first permanent memorial in the United States honoring men and women in fire service. The memorial would include the names of more than 2,000 firefighters who have died trying to protect the lives and property of others since 1981.
