Two drivers in serious condition after vehicles collide in Taneytown

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A Hampstead man and a Taneytown woman were seriously injured yesterday when their vehicles crashed nearly head-on along Route 140 in Taneytown.

Both drivers were taken in MedEvac helicopters to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where they were in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said yesterday.

According to a state police report, Warren Blaine Johnston, 42, was driving a Chevrolet pickup truck west at Big Pipe Creek near the Taneytown roundabout at 8: 12 a.m. when a Chevrolet Camaro heading east crossed the center line.

The truck's driver attempted to swerve but was unable to avoid colliding with the Camaro, which was being driven by Maureen Jeanette Dodd, 27, police said.

The force of the impact caused the Camaro to careen back across the center line into the eastbound lane, police said.

An investigation is continuing, and no charges have been filed, said Trooper Chris Hall of the Westminster barracks.
