Marlins update
Befitting a team stripped down since its world championship two years ago, the Marlins are in last place in the NL East and possess the league's worst record. But they have won five straight, including a sweep of Tampa Bay over the weekend. No other club in the majors has a worse home record than Florida's 9-24. The Marlins' .256 average before yesterday's 11-6 win was the second-worst in the NL behind San Diego's .249. But Florida, which gets manager John Boles back after 13 games (neck sprain), owns the majors' best interleague record at 23-11 over three seasons. The Marlins took two of three at Camden Yards last season, with every game decided by two runs. Sidney Ponson accounted for the Orioles' only victory, but he'll miss this series. The year before, the Marlins swept the Orioles at Pro Player Stadium. Erickson has faced Florida in each of the past two seasons, both times not getting the decision. He's given up 12 hits and seven earned runs in 10 2/3 innings.
