A special meeting was arranged by the Board of Education of Carroll County on May 29 at Eldersburg Elementary School to discuss educational and building specifications for a proposed and accepted construction project, a southeast area high school. Construction of this high school is a fact; land has been procured and deeded to Board of Education. The state Interagency Committee on School Construction has approved the project, and planning money will be advanced to the county in the next fiscal period. The purpose of the meeting was for reaction from the public as to the type of building to be constructed: duplication of an existing architectural design or a completely original construction. -- the Community Reporter, June 7, 1974.

On Saturday night, May 31, a number of young folks gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Hentzman and serenaded their son, Henry, who on Thursday evening, May 29, married Miss Mildred Buckingham of Gist. Miss Natalie Chambers played a ukulele and Miss Marguerite Romoser a jazz horn. They played a fox trot, "It Ain't Gonna Rain No More," and all enjoyed the evening by music, dancing and singing. -- Democratic Advocate, June 6, 1924.

Memorial Day exercises were held Tuesday under the supervision of Burns Post G.A.R. at Winfield under the supervision of Pickett Post, G.A.R., and Pickett Corps, W.R.C. at Taneytown and Uniontown by benevolent and patriotic orders and citizens. An interesting feature of the affair was the rendition of the "Memorial of the Flowers," by members of the Boys Meeting and children of the kindergarten and public school. The children marched into the hall in admirable order and to the platform, each girl carrying a flag and each boy a miniature musket. They were full of enthusiastic patriotism and went through the exercises without a break. -- American Sentinel, June 3, 1899.
