Lorene Bonde has been awarded a $1,000 scholarship from Wal-Mart Stores Inc. as part of a project of the National Future Farmers of America Foundation.
A senior at South Carroll High School and member of the school's FFA chapter, she plans to pursue a degree in ornamental floriculture at Delaware Valley College.
Wal-Mart gave out more than 1,300 scholarships through the FFA program.
Awards are based on a student's academic record, FFA and other school activities, agricultural experience and education, career plans and financial need.
Lorene is the daughter of Avind and Ellen Bonde of Mount Airy.
Fire
Mount Airy: Firefighters responded at 9: 36 p.m. Wednesday to a house fire in the first block of West Road. Units were out 20 minutes.
