Columbia pools set for first splash

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Four million gallons.

That's how much water it will take to fill Columbia's 23 outdoor pools, which open tomorrow for the summer season.

The Columbia Association, which runs the neighborhood pools and most recreational facilities in the 87,000-resident planned community, expects more than half a million visits before the season ends in September.

Memberships may be purchased at the Member Service Center at CA headquarters on Wincopin Circle. The cost to cover use of all the pools is: individual, $167; two-member, $227; family, $243. A less expensive five-pool membership plan is also available.

Daily admission, for residents only, costs $5 for adults and $4 for children. Guest passes are available for out-of-town visitors accompanied by a pool member.

The CA hires more than 300 seasonal pool employees, including lifeguards, pool managers, maintenance workers, instructors and coaches, for the season.
