Man, 18, drowns in Rockhold Creek accident

THE BALTIMORE SUN

An 18-year-old Harwood man drowned early yesterday after falling out of a boat at the mouth of Rockhold Creek in Anne Arundel County.

Scott Craig Bond was one of six passengers in a 12-foot aluminum boat that capsized about 12: 45 a.m., the Department of Natural Resources said yesterday.

The other five swam to a rock jetty and were rescued by the Anne Arundel Fire Department. Bond could not be found.

State Natural Resources Police dragged the area before calling off the search about 2: 30 a.m.

Bond's body was found 15 feet from shore in 8 1/2 feet of water about 7 a.m.

Authorities are still investigating the cause of the accident. The five survivors told authorities the boat was turning around when it capsized.

None of the passengers had on life jackets and the boat -- with a weight limit of 470 pounds -- was over capacity with six passengers, said Susan O'Brien, a Department of Natural Resources spokeswoman.
