Today's men's games
NCAA Div. I tournament
Quarterfinals
Hofstra Stadium, Hempstead, N.Y. No. 2 Johns Hopkins (10-2) at No. 7 Hofstra (12-2)
Time: Noon
Radio: WJFK (1300 AM)
Outlook: The Blue Jays are still fuming over their mistake-prone effort in a 9-8 overtime loss to the Flying Dutchmen two weeks ago. Meanwhile, Hofstra has continued to reel off wins, cruising past Navy, 15-7, in last weekend's first round for its school-record 13th straight victory. Freshman Joe Kostolansky scored the game-tying and winning goals against Hopkins, tarnishing a 19-save effort by Jays keeper Brian Carcaterra. The Flying Dutchmen haven't lost since March 13 and have beaten their past eight opponents at home by an average of 5 1/2 goals. The Blue Jays, who have lost in the NCAA quarterfinals three consecutive times after receiving a first-round bye, haven't advanced to the Final Four since 1996.

No. 4 Duke (13-2) vs. No. 5 Georgetown (12-2)
Time: 3 p.m.
Outlook: The Blue Devils have dominated the Hoyas, winning all 12 meetings, including a 10-8 win at Georgetown on March 27. Duke won that matchup by controlling possession with a 48-30 ground-ball edge, as well as winning 19 of 22 faceoffs. Since its worst offensive output of the season, Georgetown has averaged 15 goals behind its veteran attack of Greg McCavera, Scott Urick and Andy Flick. But this unit had troubles against Duke's close defense of Stephen Card, Dan Umbel and Palin Archer that has helped the Blue Devils hold 11 of their last 12 opponents under 10 goals.
