A 70-year-old Mount Airy man was severely injured yesterday after he fell off his farm tractor and was run over, becoming entangled in a harrow he was towing, state police said.

Milton F. Hunter of the 5400 block of Cabbage Springs Road was taken by state MedEvac helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was in serious condition, a hospital spokeswoman said last evening.

In his report, Trooper Jeffrey L. Leppert said Hunter's yells at 10: 45 a.m. alerted his wife, Shirley, who ran to his aid and immediately shut off the tractor's engine before summoning help.

Emergency medical workers told Leppert they found Hunter conscious, alert and complaining of abdominal pain. He was briefly trapped by a spring-tooth harrow attached to the rear of the tractor.

Hunter told medical workers that a rear tire on the tractor ran over his stomach, but apparently did not explain how he fell as he was working in the family garden behind his home.

The incident was ruled an accident, Leppert said.
