WILMINGTON, Del. -- Senior right-hander Pete Buck (Severna Park) pitched a seven-hitter as top-seeded Towson University (32-17) advanced to the second round of the America East tournament with a 6-1 victory over fourth-seeded Maine (27-27) yesterday at Frawley Stadium.
Seeking their first league championship, the Tigers face the winner of last night's Delaware-Northeastern game.
Buck, who raised his record to 6-0 on the season, needed 117 pitches to beat the Black Bears. He scattered seven hits, struck out four and walked none.
"Pete was in total command," said Towson coach Mike Gottlieb, whose team set a school record with its 32nd win of the season.
Dusty Reynolds led the Tigers' seven-hit attack with two hits and a pair of RBIs. Teammate Ryan Avila (Parkville) scored a run in the first and added a run-scoring double in the sixth.
