Glen Burnie man charged in robbery

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Howard County police charged a Glen Burnie man yesterday in the robbery of the Foot Locker at The Mall in Columbia on Jan. 28, three months after he was charged in a Howard carjacking and the rape of a Baltimore woman.

Howard police charged Larry Waymon Best, 36, yesterday with six counts in the Jan. 28 robbery, including armed robbery and first-degree assault.

District Judge James N. Vaughan denied bail.

County police believe two men -- one with a semiautomatic handgun -- stole $755 from the Foot Locker. A store employee identified one of the suspects in a photo lineup.

Best had been named in a warrant related to the carjacking Jan. 27 and the rape Jan. 31. He was charged in both cases.

In the carjacking, Howard police said, a man approached a Cockeysville woman in Columbia, took her vehicle at gunpoint and tried unsuccessfully to withdraw money using her ATM card.

Baltimore police said the same man is a suspect in the rape at gunpoint of a 21-year-old woman who was forced to withdraw $280 from an automated teller machine in the city.
