Indians update

Cleveland (21-9) is a game ahead of Atlanta for the best record in the majors. Two key improvements for the Indians over last season are the acquisitions of left fielder Wil Cordero, who is hitting .344, and former Oriole Roberto Alomar, who is batting .342. Kenny Lofton is hitting .342, and Manny Ramirez is first in RBIs with 41. The Indians lead the AL in batting at .308, and their 46 are second only to Seattle's 58. Good luck finding a soft spot in this order. Alomar hasn't committed an error. He can't find the pitching matchups in this series too attractive. He's a .214 career hitter against Guzman, and a .143 hitter vs. Mussina. Conversely, Omar Vizquel is hitting .371 vs. Guzman and .345 vs. Mussina, but he's battling a strained right quadriceps. He's missed six straight games, but manager Mike Hargrove said he would play tonight.
