Spalding's Zuknick cruises to 3,200 win; Catholic League track

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Archbishop Spalding's Kelly Zuknick cruised to victory in the 3,200-meter run in the Catholic League's track championships at Poly in Baltimore yesterday, one of four finals the girls contested.

The race was, in effect, a prep for Zuknick, who will compete today two more events, the 1,600 and 800, with her main opponent in both events being McDonogh's Kacie Remeto.

Those two races probable deserve top billing for today's events, which begin at 10 a.m. for field competitors and at noon for runners, all at Poly.

Remeto and Zuknick ran nearly as one in an 800 semifinal yesterday before Remeto won by a stride.

Other Catholic League champions yesterday were McDonogh's Christine Johnson in the long jump, Mount de Sales' Megan Cavanaugh in the discus and Notre Dame Prep's 3,200 relay quartet.

McDonogh leads the girls competition with 28 points, followed by Spalding's 24, Mount de Sales's 22 and regular-season champion Catholic High's 21.
