Quote: "Why say something that may wake up the Orioles? Leave them buried."

-- Unidentified Yankees coach, responding to closer Mariano Rivera's criticism of the Orioles' performance in Monday night's loss to a Cuban all-star team. It's a fact: Jose Canseco's 10 homers this season have brought the Devils Rays star's career total to 407.

Who's hot: The Yankees' Derek Jeter went 3-for-5 yesterday and has reached base in all 27 games this season, two short of the club record to start a season held by Dave Winfield.

Who's not: In his four starts at home -- which have resulted in three losses and yesterday's no-decision -- Devil Rays right-hander Rolando Arrojo has allowed 17 runs and 35 hits over 22 2/3 innings.

On deck: The Royals' Kevin Appier tries to get back on track tonight in Minnesota after surrendering 13 runs over nine innings in his last two starts.
