White Sox update
The White Sox have won seven of their past 11 to climb three games above .500. Frank Thomas, a disappointment last season, ranks second in the AL with a .373 average. Late-inning relief has fallen into the dependable hands of closer Bob Howry, who is 7-for-7 in save opportunities and has a 1.80 ERA. The bullpen's only left-hander is Bryan Ward. Chicago has a 3.83 ERA, among the league leaders. Shortstop Mike Caruso, who was struggling with 16 hits in his past 76 at-bats (.211), went 2-for-5 in yesterday's 8-1 win in Anaheim. The White Sox usually get the best of Erickson. He's 3-11 with a 6.75 ERA in 18 career starts. Guzman had his own problems last year, going 0-2 with a 9.56 ERA in three starts against the White Sox. Ponson appeared in two games against Chicago last season, going 0-1 with a 7.45 ERA. He allowed three homers in 9 2/3 innings.
