The Washington College women's lacrosse team has posted its best record of the 1990s and stands on the brink of finishing with the most wins in school history.

Tuesday's 17-5 win over Bryn Mawr raised the Shorewomen's record to 11-5. With a victory in their season finale at Gettysburg tomorrow, they would surpass the record for wins set in 1989.

Not bad for a team that finished 4-13 last year and had not enjoyed a winning season since 1991.

"We knew this was the last chance in the 1990s to put a winning spin on our program's history," said coach Eleanor Shriver.

The season's turning point came with a 13-12 victory over No. 6 Franklin & Marshall on March 6. After that, the Shorewomen flirted with a national ranking but were not able to break through. Three of their losses have been to nationally ranked teams.

Junior Maggy Kilroy (Notre Dame Prep) leads the Shorewomen with 37 goals and 23 assists. The team's all-time assist leader with 78, she also could graduate as the basketball team's all-time assist leader.

Jordan Holt, with 33 goals and 14 assists, and Kim Hardesty (Hereford), with 17 goals and six assists, are key contributors to an offense that has boosted its goal production from 9.0 goals a game last year to 12.1.

Defensively, junior goalie Sarah Moore has improved her save percentage from .490 to .604 and is allowing just 8.44 goals a game compared to 13.4 last year. Other defensive leaders include Mandy Pare -- with top stats in draw controls, caused turnovers and ground balls -- as well as Robin Necker (Perry Hall), Rosanne Alastra, Christyl Arrabal and Courtney Gillin.

Freshman fling

Loyola freshmen Tricia Dabrowski (Dulaney) and Stacey Morlang posted career highs in the 10th-ranked Greyhounds' 10-9 upset victory at No. 2 Virginia Wednesday.

Dabrowski made 16 saves and Morlang scored five goals, including the game-winner. Morland's final goal tied Megan Santacroce (Broadneck) for the team's top spot with 28 goals.
